NB2 System
The NB2 is physical computing development system that is compatible
with the Arduino/Sanguino tools. The form-factor matches the
"standard" Altoids tin.
The picture on the right shows an NB2A + NB2-LI-ION connected to a
NB2A-PB1
with an IDE ribbon cable. (The
NB2A is the predecessor to the
NB2AS
but does not include the uSD card).
Additional boards can be connected with the same cable. In this
configuration both boards were built with vertical headers. The other
configurations are --
- Backplane all boards are built with right angle connectors.
- Co-planar all boards are built with right angle connectors.
The header is used for output and the receptacle is used for input.
- Parallel Vertical mating connectors.
NB2AS Microcontroller Board
Features
- Replaceable and upgradeable CPU
- Compatible with the Arduino development tools (with Sanguino add-ons).
- ATmega644P running at 12MHz with a Vcc of 3.3V.
- 3.55" x 2.15". Fits in the "standard" Altoids tin.
- SMD land patterns designed for hand assembly.
- Atmega I/O, DAC and RTC connections are wired to a single header.
Application boards can be mounted parallel using vertical
connectors, co-planar using right-angle connectors or remotely
using a cable.
- microSD Card
- Series MOSFET enables power to be cycled on the microSD card.
This enables the microSD to be properly reset.
- Pull-ups on all pins.
- Card-detect output wired to an I/O line.
- Tested with the the following cards -- Transcend 1GB, Sandisk 2GB, Sandisk 4GB HC.
- RTC Features
- Real-Time Clock (RTC) counts Seconds,
Minutes, Hours, Day, Date, Month, and Year
with Leap-Year Compensation Valid Up to
2100
- Two Time-of-Day Alarms
- Programmable Square-Wave Output
- Backup power from a CR1220 coin cell.
- I2C Serial Interface
- DAC Features
- Two channels, 12 bits per channel.
- Reference -- 1.225V, ±0.1% (initial accuracy), 100ppm/°C max drift,
- SPI Interface
- The board can be built with either a USB interface
or with a six pin header for use with an USB to serial cable.
The USB interface circuitry includes transient
suppression.
- ICSP port (3.3V levels)
- A/D reference supply filtered per Atmel specification.
- Reset circuit per Atmel specification.
- Power supply is jumpered between either an LDO or an external
3.3V supply. The LDO input is diode or'ed from a wall adapter or
the USB 5V supply.
- Accessories include a prototyping
board NB2A-PB1
, a terminal
board NB2A-TB1
and a Li-Ion
battery charger (Sep-2010).
NB2A-PB1 Prototyping Board
- Input connector is compatible with the
output connector.
- 3.55" x 2.15" breadboard area with TH and SMD patterns. Pattern features a
DIP (300mil), SOIC and SOT23-6 pattern overlay.
- Two de-bounced push-buttons (with optional SMD components). The pushbuttons can be jumpered
to digital input pins if the SMD components are not used.
- Two debug LEDs.
NB2A-TB1 Terminal Board
- Input connector is compatible with the
output connector.
- 3.55" x 2.15" PCB with two 20-position terminal blocks.
- LED indicator for the 3.3V power supply.
