ZB1-ISINK Four Channel Current Sink
The ZB1-ISINK is a four channel high-current current-sink designed to
operate at currents up to 30A per channel. It plugs directly into a
ZB1, NB1 or NB1A board.
The current-sink maintains a constant current by changing the
on-resistance of a FET. The maximum current is limited by the minimum
on-resistance of the FET. The maximum power is limited by the FET
heatsink. The minimum on-resistance of each channel is the sum of the
FET Rds(on) and the current sensing resistance. For high currents the
limiting resistance is the FET (40mΩ at Tj=125°C). For
currents of a few amps the limiting resistance is the sense
resistor. For 1W LEDs (350mA) the current sensing resistance is set to
0.5Ω
The setup in the picture (above, right) shows five one-watt white
LEDs set to a current of 350mA. The voltage source is set a volt
or two above the compliance limit.
Features
- Four independent, 10A per channel current sinks. The channels
can be paralleled for higher currents.
- Independent on/off control for each channel.
- Compatible with the ZB1, NB1 and NB1A boards.
- FETs are mounted to enable easy attachment to an external
heatsink or thermal plate.
